Original Art by Sara Jouett Martínez

About the Artist

I’ve always known I wanted to be an artist. Throughout grade school I took art classes as electives and as extracurricular courses, then continued that path through college. At the University of Texas at San Antonio, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art History. I later followed up with an Associates degree in Graphic Design at San Antonio College. See my CV here.

Although I enjoy drawing with graphite and pen & ink, my concentration is painting. I prefer working with oils but frequently use acrylic and gouache as well. My favorite method of painting is called glazing. Paintings are built layer upon layer, one color at a time. I generally start with an outline, then apply the paint mixed with medium in thin layers of color from light to dark. Though time consuming, this method allows me to achieve great depth and brilliant color. Reoccurring themes found in my work include the figure, flowers, metaphysics and symbolism. My work includes elements of Mannerism and Art Nouveau with Surreal influence.
